Off-page SEO is everything that builds your credibility away from your own website — who links to you, where your business is listed, and whether those listings agree with each other. Google treats it as a second opinion, and second opinions carry weight.
Send us your business details and we’ll check how you’re listed across the major directories — and show you every place the information doesn’t match.
Your business is listed in dozens of directories, most of them created without your involvement. Google compares those listings to decide how confident it is that you’re one real, established business. Here’s what it usually finds.
Notice how small these are. A suite number missing. “Ste” instead of “Suite.” An old address nobody removed. A tracking number from a marketing company you stopped using in 2021. None of it feels important, and collectively it’s one of the most common reasons a good local business can’t break into the top three.
A backlink is another website linking to yours. Google reads it roughly the way you’d read a referral — if a trade association, a local news site, or a supplier points at your business, that’s a signal you exist and matter. Enough of those from credible places, and you outrank a competitor whose own pages are just as good.
The important word is credible. This is the part of search work with the longest history of abuse, and Google has spent two decades getting better at spotting it. Links bought in bulk, links from directories that exist purely to sell links, links from unrelated blogs in other countries — these used to work, then stopped working, and now actively cause harm.
We won’t buy links for you. Not because we’re precious about it, but because it’s a bad trade: a temporary lift followed by a penalty that takes far longer to undo than the gain was ever worth. If an agency quotes you a monthly number of links, ask where they come from. The answer usually ends the conversation.
What works instead is slower and duller. Getting listed properly in the directories that matter for your trade. Chambers of commerce and local business organizations. Suppliers and manufacturers with dealer pages. Sponsorships you’re already paying for and never thought to ask about. Content genuinely worth citing. It’s a grind, and that’s exactly why it still counts for something.
We find every existing listing, correct the ones that are wrong, claim the ones that were created without you, and remove duplicates that split your signal.
New listings in the directories that carry weight for your trade and your area, with your details entered identically every time.
Trade associations, chambers, suppliers, sponsorships, and local organizations. Real relationships you often already have and have never been credited for.
Reviews on the platforms that matter for your industry, not just Google. Volume, recency, and replies all register as signals of a live business.
There’s a sequence to this, and getting it backwards wastes money. Building authority to a website that doesn’t clearly say what it does is like sending customers to a shop with no sign on the door — they arrive, and nothing tells them they’re in the right place.
So we handle on-page work first, then build off-page authority on top of it. The two together are what move local visibility and produce organic rankings that hold.
The citation side of this work also tends to produce the fastest visible result of anything we do. Correcting a wrong address across thirty directories isn’t glamorous, but it can shift map pack position within weeks. See how it fits into our full Houston SEO services.
Send us your business name, address, and phone number. We’ll check the major directories and send you a list of every listing that doesn’t match — including the ones you didn’t know existed.
